Waste Transfer Station

At Silver Star, we’re committed to maintaining a clean, sustainable community. To support this effort, our Waste Transfer Station provides convenient options for recycling, composting, and garbage disposal. We partner with the Regional District North Okanagan (RDNO) in order to provide this essential resource for the community.

The Transfer Station operates during specific hours each week, so be sure to check current times before planning your visit. Here’s how to make the most of this facility:

Waste Disposal

For non-recyclable and non-compostable waste, the RDNO offers a bagged garbage disposal service. This service is available for a fee, so please check rates and ensure garbage is securely bagged before dropping it off.

  • Bagged residential and commercial garbage is accepted.
  • The minimum fee covers loads up to 88 kilograms (194 lbs).
  • Payment is accepted by Cash, Debit, Mastercard, Visa or Prepaid Card.
  • Unaccepted materials include electronics, furniture, and scrap metal. These items are accepted at the Greater Vernon Diversion & Disposal Facility

Recycling

Many items can be kept out of our landfills. Reusing and recycling helps conserve resources and valuable landfill capacity. Reduce your environmental impact by using the recycling bins located at the facility. These bins are provided by Destination Silver Star and are available free of charge. Please ensure all recyclable materials are clean and sorted appropriately.

Recyclable materials accepted here:

  • Household paper
  • Metal
  • Rigid plastic

For glass and other recyclables, please visit a different local recycling depot.

Compost Bins

Food waste makes up nearly one-third of all waste generated in our region. By reducing food waste and composting organic materials, we can significantly decrease the amount sent to landfills and make a positive impact on the environment. We encourage residents and visitors to use our free compost bins, provided by Destination Silver Star, to help create a cleaner, greener community.

Other food waste reduction tips include:

  • Plan it out: Buy just what you need.
  • Keep it fresh: Store your food properly to keep it fresher for longer.
  • Use up leftovers: Pack them for lunch to save time and money.
